- He was COMMITTED TO SEXUAL PURITY when engaged (Matthew 1:18)
- He was RIGHTEOUS, faithful to the law (Matthew 1:19)
- He was MERCIFUL, as he could have had Mary stoned for adultery (Matthew 1:19)
- He was GRACIOUS, as he could have divorced Mary but remained married (Matthew 1:19)
- He had SACRIFICIAL LOVE, being willing to divorce Mary quietly (Matthew 1:19)
- He LISTENED TO GOD (Matthew 1:20-21)
- He OBEYED GOD (Matthew 1:24)
- He was a MAN OF FAITH, obeying the angels from God in his dreams (Matthew 1:20)
- He was HUMBLE, marrying Mary no matter what others may have thought (Matthew 1:24)
- He had SELF-CONTROL, not consummating the marriage until after Mary gave birth to Jesus (Matthew 1:25)
- He PROTECTED HIS FAMILY, fleeing to Egypt from Herod (Matthew 2:14)
- He PROVIDED FOR HIS FAMILY, seeking out alternative shelter when the inn was full (Luke 2:7)
- He RAISED HIS FAMILY in the best place that God desired (Matthew 2:19)
- He was DUTIFUL TO THE GOVERNMENT (Luke 2:1-5)
- He KEPT GOD’S WORD (Luke 2:21-24)
- He STEPPED UP TO BE A FATHER (Luke 2:33)
- He was UNSELFISH as he could have divorced and abandoned (Matthew 2:13-14)
- He MODELED WORSHIP to his wife and child (Luke 2:41-42)
- He WORKED HARD for his family as a carpenter (Matthew 13:35)
- He TAUGHT HIS SON A TRADE (Mark 6:3)
- He MADE WISE DECISIONS about being a husband, father, listening to the Lord, etc. (Matthew 1:20)
- He DID NOT PROCRASTINATE but was decisive in following the Lord’s commands (Matthew 2:14)
We need more men with the character of Joseph!
We see all this in his actions, as there isn’t a recorded word of Joseph in the Bible.
