As I was running this morning, I noticed worms everywhere on the sidewalk. I thought, “Y’all gonna die! That’s not your path, that’s mine.” While I’ve seen this before, but today it hit me, “If we are not on the right path, we’re going to die as well.” Birds and a hot sun and bound to swallow up worms not in the dirt. As much as they wiggle to get wherever they are trying to on a hot sidewalk, they are bound for destruction apart from what they are created for and where they are created to be. I know very little about earthworms, but I do know they are great for aerating and decomposing/recycling waste in the soil. They flourish where they were created to be. They shrivel up and die elsewhere.
What’s the point? As much as it may seem like a good idea, stay on the path God created for you. When you get off God’s intended path for your life, you open yourself up to the predators and elements that will inevitably lead to your destruction. You and I will shrivel up and die apart from the sustenance and shelter that is Christ. Cultivate where He’s placed you. Be content with His plan. Trust He knows what’s best.
I’ll admit it…I rescued one of those wayward little wiggly fellas today and placed it back in the grass. I know…seemingly pointless. But It made me think about the times I’ve had people pick me up and help be back on the right path when I’ve tried to wiggle away from God’s path for my life. I squirmed away thinking, “I’ve got this! I know best” and soon was shriveling and dying. I stopped running my path and helped it back on its path. Stop what your doing and help someone else back on God’s path today before they are swallowed up. Turn around and get back on God’s path before it’s too late.
