On Making Decisions

Two leadership qualities needed for making best decisions for your church not just right now, but especially right now, are HUMILITY and COURAGE. Both are necessary. They balance each other. Courage without humility will make rash decisions. Humility without courage will make no decisions. Together, they bring about wisdom. I didn’t say they’d make everybody happy. Don’t ever expect that.

Somebody’s got to make decisions, and it’s you, pastor. God’s called you. The Spirit’s in you. The Word will guide you. You can’t just stand still forever hoping change happens on it’s own. You’ll always have armchair quarterbacks. Some will always say, “If I were the pastor, I would…” Pastors, make the best God-honoring, word-centered, Spirit-filled, gospel-driven, wise-counsel influenced, prayer-saturated, people-loving decisions you possibly can, be content, and shake off the naysayers, and walk worthy of your calling.

“But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:14-17
