“Above all…guard your heart…it is the wellspring of life.” Proverbs 4:23
Heart disease is a real killer. Eating right and exercise helps. This is also true spiritually. What we feed our hearts and the spiritual exercises we do (fasting, praying, worship, solitude, fellowship, etc.) We first ned a new heart! The Bible says, “Above all…guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.” Speaking of David when God anointed him to be the next king of Israel, the Lord said to Samuel, “Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7). God’s Word shows us the condition of our heart, like a mirror (James 1:23-24). We need God to show us the condition of our hearts on a daily basis. We must let him show us our thoughts, attitude, motives, emotions, and desires. We are blessed when our hearts are pure (Matthew 5:8). Like David prayed, we must ask the Lord for clean hearts and renewal of a right spirit within us (Psalm 51:10).
Lord, soften our hearts. Make them like yours!
