I’ve heard the phrase, “Confession is good for the soul, but bad for the reputation”. But the Christian should be reminded that confession of sin brings healing (James 5:16), not condemnation (Romans 8:1).
Biblical confession admits sin (1 Timothy 1:15), shows the world how Jesus forgives (1 John 1:9), changes (1 Corinthians 6:9-11), and makes new (2 Corinthians 5:17). It says, “That may be what I did, but it’s not who I am anymore. Let me tell you about who I am in Christ and from what He has saved me.”
Biblical confession doesn’t identify with or accept sin but turns from it (repentance) to the Savior who forgives, washes, sanctifies, justifies, and redeems.
