On Complaining…

Complaining never helps (as I sit in an airport in D.C. from a canceled flight the night before). It just feeds the flesh, and the flesh is never satisfied. Rearrange “selfish” and you get “is flesh”! In Philippians 2:14, Paul says, “Do everything without complaining and arguing.” That’s hard, and at times, it seems impossible.

Despite deliverance from slavery in Egypt and many miraculous encounters with God, Israel still murmured and complained at least 14 recorded times in Exodus and Numbers! Most of the time, they wished they were still in bondage or had died in Egypt! They repeatedly complained about food, water, being free, feeling abandoned, leadership, and seemingly impossible situations. Life had become one big complaint against God!How deceived we are when we allow our flesh to rule us!

How do we overcome complaining? Many ways: Daily worship, prayer, and Scripture intake. Continual thanksgiving. Remember God’s goodness. Extending grace. Forgiving others. Trusting God. Encouraging and serving others.

What else keeps you from complaining?
