On the Least of These…

I thought about Isaiah 61:3 while visiting a men’s and women’s homeless shelter and rehab facility and two friends tonight in the hospital battling cancer:

“And provide for those who grieve in Zion — to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.”

Beauty instead of ashes…

Joy instead of mourning…

Praise instead of despair…

I heard testimonies from mighty oaks – those whose roots ran deep in the Lord. His splendor was on display in their lives like beautiful leaves. Although broken, I saw beauty. While mourning, I witnessed joy. In the midst of despair, there was much praise.

Thank you Jesus for not abandoning us in our brokenness. Help us grieve with those who grieve and rejoice with those who rejoice.
