JOY 365: Day 12
So receive him in the Lord with all joy and honor such men. -Philippians 2:29
I’m thankful for those with whom I get to serve in ministry. What a team! Their character and commitment continue to both encourage and challenge me to grow as a leader. I’ve had great experiences over the years and enjoy the people I get to work with in the church. It is my goal every day to honor them as fellow ministers of the gospel. This is best expressed through trust, thanks, love, and loyalty. I try to publicly praise and privately pray with and encourage them. I consider them friends and thank God for them daily. What joy they bring to my life and calling!
Paul taught us how to honor fellow ministers of the gospel. When writing to the church at Philippi, he praised Epaphroditus to them, calling him his brother, fellow worker, and fellow soldier. He was thankful how he ministered to him and to them. He said Epaphroditus’ presence should cause them to “rejoice” and that they should receive him in the Lord with “all joy” and “honor such men” (Philippians 2:29). Epaphroditus risked his life for the church and for that and his devotion to them, Paul was thankful. He demonstrated that a culture of honor is cultivated publicly and privately by giving more honor than you seek or expect. Honor is given, not demanded. Genuine expressions of honor bring joy to all who extend, receive, and witness them.
How can you honor those God has placed in your life and ministry?
